May, 1992 Leslie Allen Williams was arrested after abducting a 35 year old woman whom he threatened to rape and kill. Officers had found the woman in the trunk of his car, she was still alive and had been taken from a nearby cemetery where she had bee visiting her mother’s grave.

After the arrest Williams began offering up confessions to multiple sexual attacks and said he had kidnapped and killed four teenagers and proceeded to lead the police to shallow graves in rural towns just northwest of Detroit. Three of the girls, Kim Villanueva, 18, and sisters Melissa Urbin, 14 and Michelle Urbin,16 had disappeared the pervious Fall. While the fourth girl Cynthia Marie Jones had gone missing in January.

Williams case brought scrutiny to the criminal justice system as for 20 years he bounced in and out of the prison system allowing him to prey on more women as well as hone his skills.

Williams was given numerous breaks, getting light sentences or early paroles after guilty pleas on various charges of breaking and entering, rape, and assault. During his last sentencing, in which he had abducted a woman, then releasing her unharmed he was sentenced to 5 to 10 years for assault and 7 to 30 for being a habitual offender. In the end however, he served a total of 7 years before being paroled.

After Williams case, state legislators created a new legislation to hold people more accountable for their crimes and make it harder for them to be paroled.

A little on Israel Keyes

Keyes was born to a large Mormon family who in his early years turned their religious sights to the radical Fundamentalist Christianity. By his teenage years Keyes renounced his Christian faith, instead claiming to be a satanist.

Keyes admitted to violent crimes that occurred as early as 1996, with the violent sexual assault of a teenage girl in Oregon. From there he committed a long series of rapes and murders ranging the country until his capture in 2012. While in prison awaiting trail he committed suicide.
