Killer Clown: The John Wayne Gacy Murders

Info:

Dec 23, 1974 Fort Worth Texas, three young girls go to the Seminary South Shopping Center to do a little Christmas shopping. The two older girls, 17 year old Rachel and 14 year old Renee had made the plans to go when 9 year old Julie Ann begged to tag along. The older girls told her she would need permission in order to go, she immediately went to her mother who said she could go but needed to be back by 6pm. The older girls agreed to the time because they actually wanted to be home by 4 especially Renee because she had a Christmas party to attend with her boyfriend and wanted to give herself plenty of time to get ready. Several people reported remembering seeing the girls in the mall that day.

When the girls did not return home at the stated time of 4pm the families became concerned and went to the mall to look for them. They arrived at 6pm and found the car the girls had driven in parked on the Sears upper level parking lot. Inside the car were the gifts and other purchases the girls had made throughout their shopping trip proving that they had been there and made at least one trip back to their car. The families stayed at the mall all night desperately waiting for the girls to show up.

As time passed and the girls didn’t return, the Fort Worth police were called they quickly turned the investigation over to the youth division of the missing persons bureau, believing the girls to be runaways. As if to prove this point, the next day, a letter was received by Rachel’s husband stating that they had to get away for a week and where to locate the car. The fishy part of this letter is that her name was misspelled and when addressing to her husband she put his formal name of “Thomas” vs the usual “Tommy” that she referred to him by. During the 1970’s and 80’s handwriting experts across the nation were given this letter to examine, sadly the results always came back as inconclusive.

Despite receiving the letter the families refuse to believe that the girls ran away, they continued to distribute flyers and collect information. Eventually tips started to come in and witnesses came forward with sightings from the night of the disappearance. On witness stating she had seen the girls being forced into a yellow pick up truck, another said he saw them being forced into a van and when he tried to intervene the man in the van said it was a “family dispute” and to “stay out of it”.

Now, decades later, there still has not been any resolution or developments in the case.
