Info
One of the saddest stories in the history of American families is that of the Stayner’s. In the early 70’s, Steven Stayner was kidnapped by a pedophile, Kenneth Parnell, and then subjected to eight years of sexual abuse horror. In 1980, Stayner broke out when he his captor was using him to lure a new boy into his clutches. Stayner’s life was ruined and he never really recovered from it, ultimately dying in a motorcycle accident in 1989. They made a movie about it back around 1990 and everyone I knew couldn’t shut up about it. It’s pretty dark, man.
This is bad enough, right? Let’s talk about Cary Stayner, Steven’s older brother.
Cary Stayner was apprehended by police after murdering four women. What is the statistical likelihood of this kind of tragedy? You might think that Cary’s obsession for murdering women stemmed from the profoundly fucked up home life that grows in the shadow of kidnapping but Stayner claims that he harbored murder fantasies before his brother was taken. Cary used his position as a handy-man at a California campground to carry out four rapes and murders of girls and women. Seriously, his poor parents are carrying the burden of a curse or something. Steven and Cary’s uncle was also a murder victim.
