Amber Alert (aka Amber’s Story)

My Son, The Killer: The Untold Story of Luka Magnotta and “1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick”

Info:

January 13, 1996, Amber Hagerman, 9, was riding her bike a local grocery store when a man drove up, snatched her forcefully from her bike and threw her into the cab of his truck. The only information given to Detective Ben Lopez, of the Arlington Texas police department was that a blue truck was seen leaving the scene.

For days all police actively searched for the girl, if they weren’t on duty they spent their time off looking. Despite national attention and wisespread media coverage it wasnt tips or the police that lead to Amber. In the end it was a local out walking their dog that found the girls body 5 days later. She was found floating in a creek just miles from the grocery store. Her throat had been slit.

To this day, the case remains unsolved, not for lack of tips, they poured in over the years. Its the lack of information and witnesses that may have seen her that day.

Not long after Amber’s funerial, a local mother, Diane Simone called a local radio station with an idea. If local media could send out weather alerts, then why could they not do the same for missing children? The idea stuck and hence created the Amber Alert system.

Donna Williams, Amber’s mother, says the alert system being named for her daughter is bittersweet. If the system been in place when Amber went missing could it have helped save her?
